about

This was the last song to be recorded from the Lider magazin collection. It was possibly the last song written by Isaac Reingold, shortly afterwards he died of tuberculosis and alcohol, and the song written by Franz Schubert for his Winterreise cycle - which he was still editing when he, too, died young - must have meant a lot to him. The hurdy gurdy man is "playing real good for free." What will be his legacy?

lyrics

He plays every day on the street, never complaining. Dear good old man, let me go with you. Will you play my songs on your hurdy-gurdy? Full transliterations and translations available free with purchase of entire album.
