about

A man laments his wife's return from her vacation in Zakopane, a resort in southern Poland. Zhelonek wrote: "sing to the tune of Yoshke fort avek." There are quite a few versions of the Yoshke, a man who must go into the army (priziv) and leaving his sweetheart behind. I used two of the tunes. Supposedly this song, from Vilna, references a gangster who was drafted when the Russo-Japanese War broke out in 1904, to the delight of all his former neighbors.
