about

The melody for this turned up many years after I found the text in the Morris Rund collection. The underlying song is by African-American composer and vaudeville performer and impresario Shep Edmonds. I previously recorded another parody written to this tune, "Ven ales iz farbay"

lyrics

A man of his age should be pious, but this old guy doesn't give a damn about the world to come. He and I won't be associates in heaven, he stuffs every forbidden food into his mouth! When I ask: "Don't you fear the world to come?" he says: "I'll get clobbered eventually either way. Getting religious in old age just isn't worth it.."
