There are two verses in the sheet music, the second being a typical lament of a mother who feels unappreciated. Using it in 'Yanko Tsigayner" Benzion Witler ditched the second verse and substituting a verse about gypsies: they wander, unwanted, through the world, cursed by their very blood. It was a theme that resonated with Jewish audiences.
